Learn about our vision and mission from Dr. Nate
Our vision for Dr. Nate Psych is to create a robust, therapeutic space with a small town, beach community feel to serve both the San Clemente residents specifically, as well as the residents of our neighboring cities and communities.
Our mission for the clinic is to bring my unique blend of formal education, international training, and applied clinical work to serve the city in which I both work and reside, along with my wife, and our 4-year-old son.
We take a modern, wraparound approach to treating children, adults, and families. Given my extensive background and training in working with children of all ages, I recognize the importance of treating not only the child but the entire family system that supports that child. In addition, after eight years of working in the Shanghai international community, I’ve become well-versed in treating individuals and families from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities.
I’ve been practicing psychology in a variety of settings for the past 19 years now. Currently, I split my time between my post here at Dr. Nate Psych and my secondary role as a pediatric and adolescent specialist at The Weichman Clinic, a multidisciplinary counseling and mental health clinic located within Hoag Hospital of Newport Beach.
Prior to joining The Weichman Clinic, I spent the previous eight years abroad serving as the Head of the Behavioral Health Department for American Medical Center (AMC) of Shanghai, China. During my time in China, I specialized in the psychological treatment of both local and international children, adults, and families, wrote for various local and international publications on mental health-related matters, as well as serving on special interest boards aiming to unify Eastern and Western psychological practices.
I am a 2006 graduate of Valparaiso University, where I majored in Psychology before making my way out West to complete both my Master’s (2008) and Doctoral (2012) Degrees in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. Upon completion of my APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Children’s Institute of Harbor-UCLA, as well as my postdoctoral fellowship with Reiss-Davis Child Study Center of Los Angeles, I became formally licensed as a clinical psychologist in September of 2014.
I started this business as a result of my lifelong pursuit for helping children, adults, and families manage their mental health struggles in order to live a more fulfilling life. Here at Dr. Nate Psych, we provide a variety of therapeutic services intended for children across the developmental lifespan, as well as therapeutic support services for individual adults and families of all types. Our intention is to support the individual patient, the family unit, and the greater community as a whole in achieving optimal mental health.
